Predicting the External Corrosion Rate of X60 Pipeline Steel: A Mathematical Model

چکیده
The need for predicting pipeline service life and improving risk assessment relating to corrosion hazards requires establishing a correlation between the rate (CR) of steel its coating condition, cathodic protection (CP) levels surrounding soil conditions. This paper presents systematic study CR bare coated—with without dent or holiday defect—X60 in simulated field environments. Three CP scenarios, i.e., no, optimized, over-protection, were studied cover wide range possible conditions that may encounter field. Two types salt solutions (sodium chloride sodium sulfate) with variation temperatures (10 °C, 40 65 °C) pH values (2, 7, 12) investigated simulate different corrosivity. A mathematical model was developed reveal impact various parameters their interactions on X60 steel. condition most important factor. individual effects other factors including temperature, pH, composition not shown be significant. Instead, temperature composition, particularly interaction appeared more determining overall CR.

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
External corrosion resistance of steel and ferritic stainless steel exhaust systems
The exhaust system has a number of requirements to fulfil. The major ones are to reduce the noise level created by the engine, to channel the waste gases out the rear of the automobile, to minimize the reduction in engine performance, and to have an acceptable service life and cost1. The exhaust system is divided into two main parts, the hot end and the cold end. The components comprising the h...

In the oil and gas industry, the pipeline is a major component in the transmission and distribution process of oil and gas. Oil and gas distribution process sometimes performed past the pipeline across the various types of environmental conditions. Therefore, in the transmission and distribution process of oil and gas, a pipeline should operate safely so that it does not harm the surrounding en...
متن کاملA Mechanistic Model of H2s Corrosion of Mild Steel
Glass cell experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanism and kinetics of mild steel corrosion in H2S environments which is accompanied by iron sulfide scale formation. By using the weight change method, the rates of corrosion and scale formation were found. It was also concluded that mackinawite is the predominant type of iron sulfide that formed on the steel surface under the test co...
متن کاملStress- Corrosion Crack Initiation of High-strength Pipeline Steel in Near-neutral pH Environments
Stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) tests were conducted in the near-neutral pH standard solution, NS4, and in an actual soil solution, using four-point bending at a high stress ratio and low frequency conditions very similar to those of operational pipelines. Pitting incubation appeared first and then pitting initiated and grew in both solutions although there were many more pits on the specimen t...
